As the weather warms, our attention turns to the outdoors. Now that we have survived the 100 year storm this winter, it’s time to breathe new life into your home exterior for you to enjoy throughout the summer.
- Add Color – Add a few showy annuals, perhaps in pots, near your front entrance
- A Crisp Look – This is a good time for re-sealing your asphalt driveway and checking the foundation, steps, walkways, walls and patios for cracks and crumbling
- A New Door – You can give your homes entry way an instant life by choosing custom colors or handsome woods such as mahogany or cherry, or cut glass storm doors. Applying a fresh coat of paint might just do the trick! Don’t forget your shutters too.
- Accessorize – New door knockers, mailboxes and lanterns are small investments that make your house look great. House number, kick plates and door bell buttons are also an inexpensive touch.
- Spruce up the Grounds – Trim shrubs so that doors and windows aren’t hidden. Fill window boxes with vines, geraniums and ornamental grasses or plant tried and true perennials. Landscaping solar lights give that professional look to all of your gardens.
- Paint it Right - Traditional colors are big now and unlike eggplant purple, they never go out of style. Since the average cost to paint a two-story home is more than $8,000, don’t rush your decision. Check out homes in your area and ask the owners for the names of the paint colors they used. (If you are part of a Home Owner’s Association you may need to check with your Board of Directors before making any exterior changes).
Enjoy the warmth and the sunshine!
